This is one of the largest service events that MU has to offer. Each Spring hundreds of students from the University of Missouri mobilize to honor the Columbia Community in a day of volunteering. This annual community service event, dedicated to improving the welfare of the elderly, families of low income, at-risk children and disabled people, as well as many others, has rapidly become a large campus tradition. Around 300-500 students from all walks of campus life unite to attend this one day event to serve needy populations around the city.

Step Forward Day is a tradition on the MU campus. It is a one day service event geared toward new students and freshmen. New students and freshmen have the opportunity to learn about and participate in community service projects through the Columbia community. Students meet at Tiger Plaza on the morning of Saturday August 22nd, 2009, are then bused to a local service agency, volunteer for a few hours and then are bused back to Tiger Plaza. All students received a free t-shirt and complementary breakfast. The event is free and open to all freshmen and new students. This is a wonderful way to become familiar with the City of Columbia and to expose one’s self to volunteerism in one’s community. Community service is valued at MU and Step Forward Day upholds that value.

The University of Missouri sponsors two leadership conferences each year. These conferences are open to all MU students and provide an excellent opportunity for both emerging and experienced student leaders to strengthen their leadership skills, exchange ideas, and expand their campus leadership network.
Minority Student Leadership Summit – offers minority students at the University of Missouri the opportunity to learn more about themselves as individual’s, explore THEIR Mizzou Experience and develop tools to be successful in college and beyond! Through workshops, presentations, and speakers, this Summit will teach students how to become the architects for their own college experience bridging the gap between where they are from & who they are, to where they want to go and the person who they want to be. Students who attend this summit will explore their identity, learn more about effective leadership, and be challenged to develop a plan to make change and to take their leadership to the next level! Come “Show Your Colors” and honor yourself, your culture & your experience at the first Minority Student Leadership Summit! The conference is planned for Saturday, October 3, 2009 . More information will be posted soon, please check back with us again.

Women’s Leadership Conference (WLC) is a supportive and educational conference to celebrate women’s accomplishments and provide developmental leadership skills that contribute to women’s success in leadership, academics, careers and personal life. The WLC is held on years ending in even numbers during the Spring Semester to coincide with Women’s History Month. The Conference is co-sponsored by several offices on campus and offers students the opportunity to learn more about leadership and provides opportunities to network with Faculty, Staff, Alumnae, and Community Leaders. Check our website for conference date, time and location. This event will take place March 13, 2010

Established in 1980, the Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) is a unique leadership experience designed to recognize incoming freshmen who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to achieving their leadership potential. CLC is a yearlong program that will provide you with opportunities to develop and practice the skills, values, and knowledge of effective leadership. One of the most exciting aspects of CLC, however, is the chance to develop friendships and networks with other first-year students who share your enthusiasm for leadership and making a difference.
If you are selected for CLC, you will be enrolled in a one-credit class during both the fall and winter semesters. The class meets once a week and takes a hands-on approach to learning more about your personal leadership style, teamwork, ethics, diversity, and group dynamics. Other class experiences include community service projects, guest presenters, participation in a low and high ropes course, and the opportunity to interact with a variety of University administrators, faculty, and staff.
